STF: Scammers plunder 1 item every 8 seconds – 02/03/2023 – Power

A survey by the STF (Federal Supreme Court), whose seat was the most vandalized by coup supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on January 8, shows an astonishing pace of destruction of public property.

During just over an hour of invasion, vandals hit at least 1 building item every 8 seconds.

The technical area of ​​the court listed 576 damaged or destroyed objects, including works of art, furniture and computer equipment, according to a document produced by the court and obtained by Sheet. The relationship is still considered partial.

A car was also damaged. The Toyota Hilux is the only asset that was insured, worth BRL 94,980, the document shows. The total losses calculated so far in the STF amount to R$ 5,923,000.

The invasion began around 3:30 pm, and the building was only retaken at 4:40 pm.

Images from the site show depredation of the plenary, scammers in green and yellow using a fire hose to reach works of art and attempts to set fire to chairs and the president’s room. The damaged panes were not included in the destruction inventory.

The court’s management announced in the document that it will complete the survey in 30 days, since there was intensified attention in the reconstruction of the plenary for the opening of the year of the Judiciary, in an event held this Wednesday (1st).

The trail of vandalism reached four porcelain vases, three of them Chinese; two chairs and a Luis 16 table and two chairs in the neo-Manueline style dating from the 1920s. The volcanic stone sculpture Dois Magistrados (Two Magistrates) (1960), by Remo Bernucci, was also dismantled.

The damage balance includes 233 computer monitors, 48 ​​telephone sets, 22 printers, 18 cameras, 16 keyboards, 10 scanners, 5 microcomputers and 2 microwave ovens.

43 chairs and 32 damaged pedestals were also identified, in addition to other items such as fans, air humidifiers and tables — made of wood and marble.

In the document, signed on the 27th by the general director of the STF, Miguel Piazzi, the official said that, due to the invasion, “there were multiple and severe damages caused to the headquarters building of the STF and to the movable property safeguarded therein, many of which of unique symbology and high historical value”.

In addition, he informed that the court has a security and electronic surveillance system that “stores, in a safe way, the monitored data”.

Released last week, images from the internal circuit of the STF show that many scammers were wearing masks and gloves and ignored the gas and pepper bombs launched by the Judicial Police.

After the invasion, security focused on protecting the basement of the Supreme Court and the annexed buildings, where the offices of ministers and other administrative sectors of the court are located.

It is possible to see from the images the Military Police of the Federal District yielding to the passage of demonstrators who invaded the court headquarters and unable to repel the depredation of the main sectors of the building.

The coup plotters also vandalized the Planalto Palace and the National Congress. All are located in the Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília.

The STF building was only retaken after the help of reinforcements from the COT (Command of Tactical Operations), an elite tactical unit of the Federal Police, and from the BOPE (Special Operations Battalion) of the DF.

Federal Police experts needed to work over three days to deal with the destruction at the Supreme Court.

In the plenary, the videos show the depredation of the seats of the ministers, the public and the place where the trials take place. Shortly after the break-in, cameras inside the building were also broken.
