The STF (Federal Supreme Court) opened an inquiry to investigate the deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), who chased, with a gun in hand, a man on the eve of the second round of elections.
The information was disclosed by CNN Brasil and confirmed by UOL. The rapporteur for the Supreme Court inquiry is Minister Gilmar Mendes.
The deputy was denounced by the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) at the end of January on charges of illegally carrying a weapon and illegal embarrassment with the use of a weapon.
At the time, Zambelli, an ally of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), was filmed pointing a gun at a black man on the corner of Rua Joaquim Eugênio de Lima and Alameda Lorena, in São Paulo. In the video, she crosses the street and enters a bar with a pistol drawn.
The parliamentarian claimed to have been assaulted and pushed by the man, journalist Luan Araújo.
- On December 20, Minister Gilmar Mendes had already complied with the request of the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) and determined that Zambelli should hand over the pistol he used to chase the man;
- The parliamentarian complied with the decision on December 27, when she delivered the Taurus G3C pistol and ammunition to the PF Superintendence in São Paulo;
- Gilmar authorized today’s searches at the request of the PF and the PGR;
- The PF would have identified that the deputy did not hand over all the weapons she had and reported this to the STF. Lindôra Araujo, deputy attorney general, agreed with the searches;
- In a note, the deputy criticized the decision of the STF, claiming that she had “completely complied with the previous decision, on a voluntary basis”;
- The statement also states that “the appeal presented by the deputy’s defense was not even appreciated, even though it was filed before the new request for search and seizure by the PGR”.
One of the deputy’s security guards was arrested by the Civil Police, but released after posting bail. He is the author of the firearm shooting at the time of confusion.
