States want to keep civic-military schools despite government decision

After the Lula government’s decision to end the National Program for Civic-Military Schools (Pecim), some states are considering maintaining the initiative. The government letter provides for the progressive closure of the program, with the demobilization of members of the Armed Forces who work in the schools that are part of the program and measures gradually employed so that the conclusion of the school year takes place “within normality”.

The State Department of Education (SED) of Mato Grosso do Sul informed, this Wednesday (12), that it will continue the model, where the regional program is already applied. The state has eight civic-military education institutions, and the SED is responsible for managing four of these schools, reported the portal g1. However, the program has little interference from financial resources from the federal government and is managed by the Fire Department and the Military Police, both state agencies.

With this, the intention is to maintain the state model, but without intending to expand the format to other schools. The other four schools in the state have not yet defined whether they will maintain the civic-military model or return to the conventional format.

Santa Catarina intends to maintain the program

The teaching director of the Santa Catarina Department of Education, Sônia Fachini, said this Wednesday that the state intends to keep the civic-military schools until the end of the year and that the intention is not to close the program. Santa Catarina has nine teaching units that apply the Pecim model.

“With the letter from the Ministry of Education, which informs all Brazilian states that the maintenance of civic-military schools will take place until the end of 2023, we, from Santa Catarina, inform you that our intention is that this program does not shut down in our state,” said Fachini to the portal 4eight.

According to the director, the Secretariat is considering using its own resources to continue the program. “We already have work carried out at the Department of Education for implementation with our own resources to give continuity to the school units that are in this model and, at the same time, give the possibility to others to follow as well”, she added.

Paraná will migrate civic-military schools from Pecim to a state model

Paraná has 200 civic-military schools, of which only 12 are integrated into Pecim. The other 194 model schools are part of the state program. According to the state Department of Education (Seed), these 12 establishments must migrate from the federal model to the state model.

Governor Carlos Roberto Massa Junior (PSD) was one of the supporters of the civic-military school project launched in 2019 by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In April, the governor even said that he intended to double the number of these teaching units in Paraná.

Civic-military school will be integrated into the state model in MT

The state of Mato Grosso has only one civic-military teaching unit, the Senador Mário Motta School, which is located in Cáceres. The unit will not be demilitarized, but must migrate to the state education network program.

The state secretary of Education, Alan Porto, said in an interview with Direct Look portal that the portfolio was already in negotiations to carry out the transition from the Pecim model of Mário Motta to that of the Tiradentes military state schools, which are managed in partnership with the Military Police and the Fire Department.
