O Glicerio Marques, Known as “Gigante da Favela”, it is considered the traditional football stadium in the capital. On Saturday (29) the City of Macapá handed over the first three phases of the site that has existed since 1950. The environment is now a large sports complex, with spaces such as an athletics track, a skate park, a swimming pool, sports courts, a climbing wall and dance and fight block.
“This is an important moment for the sport of our capital, it is the unification of a historic monument, stage of great games that now gains new modalities. We are going to work on socio-educational sport through the schools and also provide partnership with the federations”, highlights the municipal coordinator of Sports and Leisure, Bruno Church.
The new location includes 30 sports, including Olympic, Paralympic, collective and individual sports. The Olympic modalities are Taekwondo, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, Olympic Wrestling, Boxing, Kickboxing and MMA.
The collective modalities offered are soccer, basketball, indoor volleyball, 3×3 basketball, sand volleyball, foot volleyball, futsal, handball and field hockey.
For Vanete Silva, mother of the little jiu-jitsu athlete Davi Silva, the delivery means the appreciation of the sport and better quality of life. “My son is hyperactive, has a TDH report and when he started fighting he was very restless and didn’t pay attention in class. Today, the difference in behavior is noticeable. This space undoubtedly came to add and give them more dignity in the practice of their modalities”he said.
In individual sports classes will be offered in street skate, BMX freestyle, swimming, artistic gymnastics, breaking, athletics and badminton. In the Paralympic modality, parataekwondo, bowls, swimming, athletics, goalball, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball are being offered.
Skateboarder 5 years ago, Rickson Ramos, 18 years old, highlights the importance of the skate park to perfect himself in the sport and pursue a career. “Skateboarding is a national level, we have competitions to participate in and finally a suitable place to train. This is the first time that a structure like this has been seen in the city, a joy for all athletes who intend to win medals and travel to represent our state”comments.
Investment
The work is carried out in four stages and has a budget of three parliamentary amendments, plus resources from the Municipal Treasury. Two amendments are from Senator Davi Alcolumbre, which add up to R$ 9,858,550.36 million. The third amendment was sent by former federal deputy Evandro Milhomem, in the amount of R$ 1,950,000.00 million.
