The journalist, presenter and sports commentator Marcio Guedes died on the night of this Friday (3), at the age of 75. He was treating cancer and was hospitalized at Casa de Saúde São José, in Rio de Janeiro.
In his 54-year career, Guedes worked at Jornal do Brasil, Correio da Manhã and Jornal da Tarde/Estado de São Paulo. He was a columnist and commentator for the newspaper O Dia and for Band, Manchete, Globo, Record, ESPN and TV Brasil, where he had worked since 2001.
Best known for his career on television, Marcio Guedes had also stood out in the print media. He was twice the winner of the Esso Journalism Award: first with the series “Football in three times”, in Correio da Manhã (1971), and then with the report “Assim se made the star: Zico”, in Jornal da Tarde and State of São Paulo (1976).
On social media, several colleagues and fans paid tribute to the journalist. One of them was published on the official profile of Botafogo, a club of which Guedes was a declared fan.
“The commentator, who made his mark in the sports press, carried the passion for Botafogo, his heart team. The Club wishes strength to his family and friends. Rest in peace”, published the alvinegro from Rio de Janeiro. The wake should be held in the main hall of the club, reserved for friends and family.
“Sports journalism dawned poorer”, wrote presenter Galvão Bueno. The two were contemporaries in coverage of the 1982 World Cup, in Spain, by TV Globo.
“A good partner and friend. Born in Botafogo in body and soul, Marcio was kind, cultured and very intelligent! May God receive him well!”, added the narrator.
