SP wants to partner with Lula in the new Minha Casa Minha Vida – 01/30/2023 – Panel

The state of São Paulo intends to partner with the federal government in the new Minha Casa Minha Vida, which President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should recreate soon.

“In my view, housing is one of the areas where there can be more adherence between the federal and state governments”, says the state secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Marcelo Branco.

The CDHU (Housing and Urban Development Company), state owned by the São Paulo government, can act in a complementary way to the federal program, according to the secretary.

Although he supported the re-election of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) against Lula, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) has sought to show that he will have a mature relationship with the PT, in areas where cooperation is possible. Housing, considered a priority by both the Planalto Palace and Bandeirantes, is one of them.

The government of São Paulo intends to publish a housing plan for the next ten years in the first half of the year. Priorities are to remove families from risk areas and alleviate the housing deficit, especially in the outskirts of the state’s metropolitan regions.

This matches the new impetus given by the federal administration to peripheral regions, with the creation of a specific secretariat for this area in the Ministry of Cities.

For the city of São Paulo, the state government intends to start a new phase of PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships) in the central region, with 4 to 6 more residential buildings in addition to the existing ones.

The idea this time is to attract a mixed public, which includes consumers with higher purchasing power, in addition to lower income groups. This would make it possible, in the secretary’s view, to reactivate trade and the service sector, which would help to revitalize the area.
