SP ends dispute with União for Campo de Marte – 02/28/2023 – Panel

The Attorney General of the Municipality of São Paulo withdrew this Tuesday (28) R$ 1.7 billion deposited in court and, thus, ended the legal dispute involving the Campo de Marte area.
The impasse had been running in court since 1958 when the city hall filed a repossession action. Originally belonging to the municipality, the area was bombed and taken over by the federal government during the 1932 Revolution and, since then, São Paulo has been trying to get it back.
The agreement for the return of Campo de Marte was closed in the Chamber of Conciliation of the AGU (Attorney General of the Union) from the pardon of a debt of the municipality with the Union in the amount of R$ 25 billion.
Since March last year, when the agreement was signed, debt installments of BRL 300 million monthly began to be deposited in court while the terms were finalized by the legislature and the Union.
This Tuesday’s withdrawal, with the agreement of the federal government, returns these values to the city’s coffers and ends the dispute.
