SP councilor says he was threatened by colleague; see – 05/19/2023 – Panel

Councilman George Hato (MDB) asked the São Paulo City Council to escort the Metropolitan Civil Guard after being, according to him, threatened with physical aggression by his colleague Camilo Cristófaro (Avante).

In a speech in the plenary of the Chamber this Thursday (18), Hato said Cristófaro said in a loud voice “I’m going to give this Japanese a club” when he met him in the building. The Avante councilor denies it. The two councilors have been at loggerheads for years.

“I feel threatened by this councilor, by this psychopath, who really needs exemplary punishment,” said Hato, repeating several times that his colleague is racist and dangerous.

Cristófaro has been accused of the crime of racism since November of last year, when Justice accepted a complaint from the São Paulo Public Ministry. The councilor was caught by the sound system of the plenary of the Chamber saying “not washing the sidewalk is a black thing, right?”, in May 2022.

Last week, the Internal Affairs of the Chamber defined a new rapporteur to deal with the impeachment process, Marlon Luz (MDB).

Cristófaro tells the Panel that Hato is lying and that he will resign from his mandate if the emedebista proves the accusations. He also claims that he will take the colleague to internal affairs for breach of decorum and to Justice for slander. He claims he was not at the location Hato described in his allegations.

This is not the first time Chrysopharo has been involved in trouble. In 2019, he called councilor Fernando Holiday (Novo) an “auditorium monkey”, in the plenary of the Chamber.

In 2017, then councilor Isa Penna (PSOL) said she was pushed and assaulted by Cristófaro in one of the elevators of the City Council building.

According to Isa, the councilor called her a “slut”, “terrorist”, “chicken poop” and hinted at threats saying that she shouldn’t be surprised if she was “slapped in the street”.

There are also accusations of aggression against the councilor made by an employee of the subprefecture of Ipiranga, who would have been punched in July 2020, and another carried out by an advisor to the former councilor and current state deputy Eduardo Suplicy (PT).
