The Corregedoria of the City Council of São Paulo scheduled for August 24, at 2 pm, the meeting to discuss and vote on the final report of the process against Camilo Cristófaro (Avante).
The councilor was reported to Internal Affairs after using a racist expression (“they didn’t wash the sidewalk, it’s a black thing”) during a CPI session in May 2022.
The process was interrupted by an injunction that Cristófaro obtained in court between June and September, but it remained stalled even after the provisional decision of the court was overturned.
In May 2023, Councilor Rubinho Nunes (União Brasil), General Inspector of the Chamber, appointed his colleague Marlon Luz (MDB) as rapporteur for the case in Internal Affairs, with the aim of speeding up its progress.
“The process referring to councilor Camilo was stopped for more than a year in Internal Affairs. It is important that we bring a quick response and that, at the same time, guarantee due process of law and ample defense”, says Nunes
“With the hearing of witnesses, the evidentiary instruction was closed. The judgment session was scheduled on the earliest possible date and I believe that on the same day we will have a decision”, he completes.
Luz will present his report on August 24, when it will be voted on by the members of Internal Affairs. In the event of conviction, which could lead to the removal of the mandate, the case will also have to be voted on in plenary by the 55 councillors.
