Social projects in Rio do well in AJP stage in Guarapari-ES

Students from social projects in Rio de Janeiro did well in the first South American stage of the AJP Tour in 2023, held last Sunday, the 15th, in Guarapari-ES. For the UPP Generation, 29 athletes from nine favelas in Rio won 21 medals, including nine golds, 10 silvers and two bronzes, securing sixth place overall among the 90 teams that participated in the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Federation event.

Formed by young people from Barreira do Vasco, Batan, Borel, Cidade de Deus, Jacaré, Macacos, Mangueira, Manguinhos and Rocinha, and teachers, who are military police officers, the delegation covered almost 1,000km, including the round trip from Guarapari, in a bus provided by the State Government through the State Secretariat of Military Police. The kimonos and food were offered by the Legion of Good Will.

Created in 2009, the UPP Generation has trained numerous South American, Brazilian, European and even world champions. In addition to teaching techniques, senior police officers also teach the philosophy of martial arts to young community residents, training not only competitors, but also citizens.

The project has the partnership and support of the LBV, Super Rádio Brasil AM 940, Prime Esportes, Boomboxe, Unisuam, State Government, State Secretariat of Military Police and social activist René Silva.

State College was also well represented

Located inside Dom Helder Câmara State College, in the Engenho de Dentro neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio, the project led by black belt Caio Cordeiro, who was a student at the institution, also won a gold medal, through the gray belt Theo Igor Mítere de Freitas. A student at the school where he trains, he overcame two opponents to reach the top spot on the podium.

Like the UPP Generation, the Dom Helder Câmara State College project is also supported by the partnership between the LBV and Super Rádio Brasil AM 940.
