In addition to broad support in the PT, lawyer Marco Aurélio de Carvalho also has the support of social movements to take over the Ministry of Justice.
In a letter to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), around 60 entities highlight Carvalho’s role in opposing Operation Lava Jato and state that, in this sense, he would guarantee as minister “the continuity of the public security policy with the experience of those who, through law, defended one of the most basic rights, which is the presumption of innocence.”
Among the signatories are entities such as Uneafro, Movimento Negro Unificado (MNU), Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens (MAB) and 342 Artes.
Coordinator of the legal group Prerogativas, the lawyer is one of the names that have been mentioned for the vacancy opened with Flávio Dino’s move to the Federal Supreme Court.
Others listed are the current executive secretary of the department, Ricardo Cappelli, the former minister of the STF Ricardo Lewandowski, the attorney general of the Union, Jorge Messias, and the secretary of Legal Affairs of the Civil House, Wellington Silva.
