Social action offers free care in Manaus

Action takes place at the Technical Education Center, starting at 8:30 am

Manaus (AM) – This coming Saturday (25), the communities of São Geraldo and adjacent neighborhoods will receive a day of free services in the area of ​​health, beauty and personal care. The event is being held by the Technical Education Center (Centec), located on Av. Djalma Batista, and will feature a series of activities ranging from relaxing massage and haircuts to dermatological care and blood glucose testing.

The program was called ‘O Centec de Portas Abertas para a Comunidade’ and will start at 8:30 am, at the institution’s headquarters. The services are also part of this year’s schedule of the ‘Centec Azul’ campaign, carried out annually by the school. The project includes activities to raise awareness about men’s health with students and teachers at the school, as well as the external community.

“Centec Social is a philanthropic arm of the school through which we carry out activities aimed at the external public. Just as we usually do in other health campaigns, such as Pink October, we could not go through Blue November without offering the community free health and well-being services”,

says the General Director of Centec, Driele Cazumba.

According to the manager, in addition to the services already mentioned, pressure measurements and blood typing will be carried out. The procedures will be carried out by students from Centec’s health axis courses, under the supervision and direct assistance of professors who are experts in their areas.

Centec Social’s partners include the State Secretariat for Justice, Human Rights and Citizenship (Sejusc), which will bring its Itinerant Mobile Unit, with guidance services for people in situations of domestic and family violence.

Care

Professor of the technical Nursing course, Bruno Fernandez states that the main objective of the campaign is to encourage men to take better care of themselves. A survey by the São Paulo Men’s Health Reference Center showed that 70% of men who seek a doctor’s office were influenced by their wife or children. The study also revealed that more than half of these patients postponed going to the doctor and arrived with advanced-stage diseases.

“We have been carrying out educational work regarding the care that men need to take, this safer practice, given that we still have a high incidence of diseases that can be prevented with the simple act of men seeking a health center, understanding the need seek means to avoid these conditions or their worsening”,

he comments.

The Centec Azul campaign began on November 8th, when students and teachers carried out a ‘toll at the signal’, with the theme ‘Blue November: the Best Treatment is Prevention’. On the occasion, students presented posters and distributed leaflets with information about men’s health.
On the 10th, it was time for the workshop with the theme ‘Men’s and Women’s Health’. Centec students prepared two themed rooms, one on prostate cancer and the other on lung cancer. The spaces were open to teachers and school students.

“We took this idea to students, especially men, so that they understand that from an early age it is important to practice preventive health, having regular exams and appropriate follow-ups. It was very interesting, the reception was great”,

explains professor Bruno Fernandez, responsible for the activity.

Prostate cancer in AM

According to data from the National Cancer Institute, Amazonas should have 570 new cases of prostate cancer between 2023 and 2025. Throughout Brazil, there should be 71,730 cases in the same period, a number that worries and reinforces the importance of campaigns such as Blue november.

According to the Ministry of Health (MS), the best way to prevent cancer is through the pursuit of healthy habits, such as not smoking, avoiding alcohol consumption, having a healthy diet and practicing physical exercise.
