The vessel also carries 180 marines specialized in rescue and clearing operations to assist in the search for the missing.

The Atlântico also has six helicopters and three landing craft for vehicles and personnel, which will have the task of reaching isolated locations that are without land access.

“The field hospital will relieve hospitals in the region that are prioritizing more serious cases,” said Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) on Tuesday (21), when announcing the support of the Navy.

The governor also asked tourists who are still in the region to leave the cities, to reduce the “pressure” on public services. The heavy rains this weekend have already killed 46 people.
