Serasa: scammers send fake bills to those with dirty names – 03/10/2023 – Market

Fraudsters have been looking for indebted people to apply blows, according to Serasa. The credit score company identified 3,000 inauthentic slips and Pix keys among more than 10,000 queries to its payment validator, a tool launched in November that allows you to check whether the slip is genuine.

This is just a sample of fraud attempts, as not all customers verify the origin of the bill. Scammers can also use Pix Copy and Paste and QR Code to intermediate the fraudulent transaction.

According to Serasa’s solutions coordinator, Franciele Tiburcio, scammers impersonate representatives of companies that renegotiate debts on social networks to offer proposals that would be better than those on the market. “They promise to remove the negative on time and increase the credit score in 24 hours.”

Serasa claims that it only communicates with customers through its official channels: email, telephone and WhatsApp, verified by a blue seal. “Be wary of unknown links”, recommends the company in promotional material.

Those who want to renegotiate debts can look for the Feirão Limpa Nome, by Serasa, which offers proposals with discounts until March 31st. The face-to-face service in the capital of São Paulo runs until this Saturday (11), but the renegotiations continue through the website.

In October last year, a Twitter user reported that his mother had fallen for the fake ticket scam.

As the customer makes the transaction intentionally, the financial institutions are freed from the responsibility of reimbursement.

This money is still distributed between different accounts through various transfers, according to Serasa fraud manager Patrícia Camilo. “Pix democratized access to banking services, but also opened up opportunities for these frauds.”

KNOW HOW TO PREVENT YOURSELF

Serasa never initiates conversations through social networks. The company’s employees only talk when they are sought in their official service channels or with registered people —also via the company’s own accounts.

The company also provides a means of payment checker on the Limpa Nome platform, available on the internet, Google Play and the App Store.

After logging in with CPF and password, the user must select the Solutions tab. Then, select the Validate Payment Method option in the Payments section.

Finally, you need to add the Pix code or barcode in the indicated field.

If the slip is not from Serasa, check that the beneficiary field contains a financial institution authorized to renegotiate debts.

Fraud attempts can be registered in police reports at online Civil Police stations.
