Last weekend, the 2nd stage of the 2023 Amapaense Table Tennis Championship took place and several athletes were participating in the competition, including senior athlete Marcelo Rodrigues Paixão, 47 years old, from Ypiranga Sport Clube, who won the bronze medal in the modality Rating ‘A’, where the best table tennis players in the state are, aged between 14 and 18 years old.
“On Sunday (11) the most difficult medal of our time was won with determination. After a 12-hour shift at the HE, I had to compete for a place on the podium against the seven best table tennis players in the state, aged between 14 and 18 years old, that is, the table tennis elite from Amapá. I had to show my experience and determination to win the podium”said the athlete.
During his sports career, Marcelo has been five times senior amapaense champion (2015 to 2022), has eight medals in national competitions (from 2005 to 2023), champion of the first stage of the Amapaense Table Tennis Championship and bronze in the second stage. He attributes his victories to those who always encouraged him.
“I first thank God and then Victor Willian, my friend and brother. I also thank Cremilda Nobre and Marlon Ubaiara, my first teacher and friend”commented.
The next stage (3rd) of the Amapaense Table Tennis Championship takes place on August 12th and 13th at the High Performance Table Tennis Training Center and the athlete will once again be in search of another medal.
