Parliamentarians approved the request for a public hearing on the subject
Brasilia DF) – Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) is working to finalize the report on the fiscal framework, currently being discussed at the Senate Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), next week. For this, in the next few days the parliamentarian will dedicate his time to the analysis of the approximately 30 amendments presented to the proposal and should meet with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad.
Also this Tuesday (13), parliamentarians approved a request to hold a public hearing on the subject, with Aziz, the rapporteur of the matter, voting against. However, for Aziz, this week will be the moment to establish dialogue with several fronts, including the government, the opposition and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira.
“I hope that we will vote soon on the CAE and on the same day we will be able to vote in the plenary, after an intense discussion. The proposal is important for us to have a spending limit. For us to reduce the public debt, it is necessary to collect more. With the exorbitant interest rates we have, this debt grows a lot and the more this debt grows, the less we have available to make basic investments in the population”
Aziz pointed out.
According to the president of CAE, Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO), it is possible to promote the deliberation of the report right after the public hearing, as in other projects. Senator Omar Aziz’s final report should include his considerations on the amendments presented, with the initial expectation that the project will be voted on in June in the Senate, after discussion in the committees and assessment of possible economic impacts.
This week, the senator should participate in debates with other parliamentarians to speed up the approval of the proposal, which he defends as an important project to modernize the country’s fiscal policy and create a more solid basis for economic growth. “It is not a project of the Lula government, but a tool for us to regain credibility with those who want to invest in Brazil”, reinforced Aziz.
The proposal approved in the Chamber of Deputies has been the target of criticism by the senators who will analyze and vote on the project (PLP/2023), with requests for changes in the basic text. The inclusion of the Basic Education Maintenance and Development Fund and the Valuation of Education Professionals (Fundeb) and the Constitutional Fund of the Federal District in the project are among the main points criticized.
