Federal Government proposal now undergoes technical analysis at the Economic Affairs Commission (CAE)
Brasilia DF) – Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) was officially appointed to report on the Federal Government’s Fiscal Framework proposal, which is being processed by the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE). The parliamentarian highlighted that priority and speed will be given to the project that establishes a series of fiscal adjustment measures to balance the public accounts.
“I just received the article through the CAE and next week discussions begin to take place and I’m sure there will be many amendments on the part of the senators. We are going to talk to everyone so that we can bring about a fiscal adjustment, a fiscal framework, legal certainty for those who want to invest in Brazil. No one wants to contribute money where public accounts are not treated seriously”,
Omar added.
In the next few days, Omar Aziz should study the text of the proposal for the Fiscal Framework, carrying out analyzes and possible revisions, before presenting an opinion on the project. For the Federal Government, the proposed Fiscal Framework, which has already passed through the Chamber of Deputies, is seen as an important initiative for balancing public accounts and resuming economic growth in the country. With the work of Omar Aziz, it is expected that the proposal will be approved and may contribute to fiscal stabilization in Brazil.
The new fiscal regime for the Union’s accounts must still replace the current spending ceiling. The bill sets rules to keep expenditure below revenue each year. According to the text approved by the Chamber, criteria for the actual variation (inflation discounted) in expenditure are permanently fixed, without depending on the Budgetary Guidelines Law (LDO) project, as in the original text.
Considered one of the most experienced and influential senators in the Brazilian parliament, Omar Aziz has been active in politics for nearly three decades, holding various public offices, including that of governor of Amazonas. Aziz was also chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of the Pandemic in 2021, pressuring the federal government to acquire vaccines against Covid-19.
