Senator from Pará again criticizes delay in licensing oil exploration in Amapá – News of Brazil

the senator Zequinha Marinho (PL-PA), in speech in Plenary, he again criticized the delay in releasing the license for oil exploration off the coast of Amapá. He noted that it is necessary to explore and invest in the natural potential of the region in a sustainable way.
“Oil we have in abundance. We need to overcome the difficulty related to the concession for exploration. We don’t know how much longer we’ll be able to use fossil fuel, because other means, other technologies, other products are starting to reach the market that are more environmentally sustainable than fossil fuel. But it’s still what we have in large quantities. Tomorrow or the day after, we don’t explore it, we don’t use it and there’s no point in that anymore, because there are already other sources”he stated.
The senator also pointed out that the Amazon is poor and needs more investment. Therefore, in his opinion, “We cannot be hostages of this parallel government that condemns the region to backwardness and the lowest quality of life in the country”.
Zequinha also reinforced that the Brazilian economy needs to move forward and the issue of oil is essential to achieve this goal.
He also criticized the international NGOs that work making a negative commercial, against the drilling of wells by Petrobras at the mouth of the Amazon River due to alleged environmental damage.
