Senator asks Itamaraty for action in case of boy in Egypt – 02/16/2023 – Panel

Senator Mara Gabrilli (PSD-SP) sent a letter to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and of Justice, Flávio Dino, asking for help so that a 4-year-old boy irregularly taken to Egypt returns to his mother’s side, in Brazil.
The boy traveled with his Egyptian father to the African country in September last year. The displacement took place without authorization from the mother, the Brazilian Karin Rachel Aranha Mohamed Fayz, who obtained an injunction from the Brazilian court for unilateral custody of the child.
The senator’s appeal was also made to the Brazilian ambassador in Egypt, Antônio Patriota, former minister of Foreign Affairs.
Egypt is not a party to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (1980), but Gabrilli argues that Itamaraty has experience in such situations and can work with the Egyptian authorities to solve the case.
