The opposition leader in the Senate, Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to immediately suspend the decrees of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) that change the legal framework for basic sanitation. The norm was approved in 2020, during the Bolsonaro government, when Marinho was Minister of Regional Development, the portfolio responsible for the area.

For the senator, the decrees “delay the privatization of the sector and, in a totally opposite signal to the new legal framework for basic sanitation, favor an outdated and declared bankrupt public policy”. Marinho asks for the “grant of provisional emergency relief, determining the immediate suspension of the effects” of the decrees.

On social networks, the parliamentarian stated that the PL also called the Court against the new determinations. “The decrees violate the Constitution, as they validate irregular contracts and deliver the Sanitation service, without bidding, to state-owned companies without the capacity to invest to universalize water and sewage services,” said Marinho in the twitter.
