Senate approves MP that grants salary readjustment to federal servants

The Senate approved this Wednesday (23) the provisional measure that granted a linear readjustment of 9% to all federal employees. MP 1,170/2023 goes to presidential sanction in the form of a bill of conversion (PLV), as there were additions to the original text of the Executive. The text was approved by the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday night (22).

The increase takes effect from May 1, 2023, and the corrected salaries began to be paid in June. Meal allowance also increased (43%), going from R$458 to R$658 per month, informed the Senate Agency. The MP was edited after the sanction of Law 14,563, of 2023, which included resources for granting the readjustment in this year’s Budget (Law 14,535, of 2023).

According to the Executive, the correction reaches more than 1.1 million beneficiaries, of which 520,000 active civil servants, 13,600 public employees, 450,000 retirees and 167,000 pensioners. The cost will be around BRL 9.62 billion for the 2023 fiscal year and BRL 13.82 billion annually from 2024 onwards.

One of the changes introduced in the text by the deputies and confirmed by the senators creates one more directorship in the Companhia de Desenvolvimento do Vale do São Francisco (Codevasf), which goes from three to four. The approved text also allows political amnesty recipients who receive monthly economic reparation to choose to use this remuneration to apply for payroll loans. This remuneration must be indemnifying in nature and received on a permanent and continuous basis.
