The rapporteur, Zenaide Maia (PSD-RN), suggested a simpler and more comprehensive statement to include all religions
The Senate approved a bill that prohibits employment or work relationships between churches and ministers of religious confession. The original text, by Deputy Vinicius Carvalho, of the Republicans of São Paulo, prohibited the employment relationship between ministers, pastors, elders, bishops, nuns, priests, evangelists, deacons, elders or priests and the respective religious confessions, such as churches, institutions, orders or congregations.
The rapporteur on the Social Affairs Commission, senator Zenaide Maia, from the PSD of Rio Grande do Norte, presented a wording amendment to the project to extend its effects beyond Christian denominations, in Catholic and Protestant strands.
Zenaide Maia suggested simpler and more comprehensive legislation to prohibit the employment relationship between religious entities of any denomination or nature and vocational education institutions with a minister of religious confession, members of an institute of consecrated life, congregation or religious order.
There is no employment relationship between religious entities of any denomination or nature and vocational education institutions with a minister of religious confession, members of an institute of consecrated life, congregation or religious order, or any others who are equivalent to them, even if they are dedicate part or all of it to activities related to the management of the entity or institution to which they are linked or are undergoing education or training.”
Senator Damares Alves, from the Republicans of the Federal District, which is part of the Evangelical Parliamentary Front, said that the approval of the proposal could prevent the action of what she called “opportunists”.
We receive a volunteer at the Church to be, for example, a deacon. He stays there for 20 years as a deacon, serving Holy Supper, the Eucharist, and, suddenly, someone puts it in his head to ‘file a labor lawsuit against the denomination, against the church’. So this project even comes to avoid this type of situation. Opportunists who arrive join a religious community and then want to file a labor lawsuit. So the measure is right
Senators Zequinha Marinho, from Podemos in Pará, and Izalci Lucas, from the PSDB in the Federal District, also praised the approval of the bill, which is now awaiting presidential approval. From Rádio Senado, Pedro Pincer.
