President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met, this Wednesday (4), the Council for Economic, Social and Sustainable Development, known as “Conselhão”, for the first time in his third term.
Created by Lula himself in 2003 and extinguished by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the instance served as a dialogue between the government and civil society to discuss measures involving the country’s development.
Board members, which include businessmen, lawyers, academics and trade unionists, are unpaid and voluntarily participate in discussions. The Council also has an advisory nature, that is, the meetings generate recommendations to the president, who may or may not accept them.
Among those confirmed are the chairman of the board of directors of Bradesco, Luiz Carlos Trabuco, businessmen Abilio Diniz and Emerson Kapaz, sociologist Neca Setubal, president and founder of the Petz network, Sergio Zimerman and political scientist Antonio Lavareda.
The group will also include, among others, former secretary and cultural producer Alê Youssef, lawyers Vera Lúcia Santana de Araújo, Dora Cavalcanti, Marcus Vinicius Furtado Coêlho and Bruno Catsiamakis Queiroga and the president of the Association of Notaries and Registrars of Brazil, Claudio Marçal.
