In a unanimously approved decision this Tuesday, FIFA’s Technical Council defined the allocation of vacancies for the dispute of the new Club World Cup, which will have a new version and will feature 32 teams. With this new format, the competition will be held between the months of June and July 2025.
According to the governing body of football, the decision was made based on a set of metrics and objective criteria to arrive at the model desired by the organizers.
By division, Uefa will be the confederation entitled to the largest number of members: 12. Conmebol, which represents South America, will have six registrations.
CONCACAF (Central America), AFC (Asian Football Confederation) and CAF (African Football Confederation) will be awarded four places. Completing the total of 32 teams, Oceania and the host country will have a contender in the tournament.
This new version of the Club World Cup will not have a defined venue and will have the same periodicity as a World Cup with national teams, that is, it will be played every four years.
Club World Cup 2023 already has venue set
As for the Club World Cup corresponding to the 2023 season, the competition formula will not have any kind of change in relation to the table that has been fulfilled in recent years.
The tournament follows the current style and will feature seven teams. The location is already set. Saudi Arabia will be the stage for the dispute and the championship will be held between the 12th and 22nd of December. This same model will be repeated at the end of 2024.
