The draw of São Paulo as Flamengothis Sunday (24), in Morumbi, placed Dorival Junior in a select group of coaches at the Copa do Brasil. The 2023 title was the coach’s third and the second in a row, which made the São Paulo coach equal to Mano Menezes, who won the trophy in 2017 and 2018 with Cruzeiro.
Unlike the coach of the Minas Gerais team in terms of achievements, Dorival is the first in the history of the competition to win with two different teams.
This Sunday’s title is São Paulo’s first in the competition and Dorival Júnior’s third as coach. Previously, the coach won the Brazilian Cup with Santos, with Ganso, Neymar and Robinho, in 2010, and in 2022, with Flamengo.
Now, Dorival Júnior is the second most successful coach in the tournament, alongside Mano Menezes, with three wins. The leadership of the coaches ranking is Felipão, who won the Copa do Brasil on four occasions, with Criciúma, Grêmio and Palmeiras on two occasions.
