Investments will contribute to sustainable regional development and generate jobs and income in Amazonas

Manaus (AM) – The State Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), coordinated with the Amazon Development Superintendency (Sudam), R$ 1 million in Union resources to support projects in the productive sector of Amazonas. The investments will contribute to sustainable regional development and generate jobs and income.

In total, five projects were approved, including support for the development of organic production systems for farmers, proposed by the National Institute for Amazonian Research (Inpa), and the installation of an agroindustry in the municipality of São Paulo de Olivença, far from 985 kilometers from Manaus, project designed by the same municipality.

The executive secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation at Sedecti, Jeibi Medeiros, explained that, today (25), the meeting was held with the proponents, which is part of a series of activities led by the department since last year.

“We believe that the other projects will also benefit, but in principle we received investments for two, one for Inpa and the other for the city of São Paulo de Olivença. These are resources that will support the productive sector in Amazonas, which deserves special attention and which the government of Amazonas has spared no effort to develop”,

declared Jeibi.

Sedecti has worked to strengthen investments in Science, Research, Innovation (ST&I) and coordination between institutions. In 2022, the department presented a call for projects related to the development of production in Amazonas and received more than 42 initiatives. Now it will monitor the projects through technical visits to the sites.

“Today’s meeting served to align the details of resource management and execution. The articulation of these resources had its starting point at Sedecti, which prepared the Call Notice, the mobilization of actors and the reception of proposals”,

explained.

The advisor to the city council of São Paulo de Olivença, Waldeney Travassos, declared that the project will benefit more than 6 thousand families and that the raw material to be used in the agroindustry will initially be açaí and buriti.

“This project is extremely important for the economic development of the municipality and surrounding areas such as Amaturá and Santo Antônio do Içá, because the agroindustry will generate jobs and income for local families. We thank Governor Wilson Lima and the Sedecti team for the initiative and negotiations carried out”,

highlighted.

Also present at today’s meeting (25) were the executive secretary of administration and finance at Sedecti, Adriano Monteiro, the Coordinator of the Amazonas Border Center (NiFFAM), Guilherme Vilagelim and representatives from Sudam, Inpa and São Paulo City Hall. Paulo de Olivença.
