The rooms at the recently inaugurated headquarters of the Itaboraí Department of Education, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, are numbered from 1 to 22.
But, on a panel designed to guide visitors, room 22, secretary Mauricílio Rodrigues’s office, comes after room 12 and before room 14. Room 13 does not exist.
The mayor of Itaboraí, Marcelo Delaroli, is from the PL, which uses the number 22. The PT, identified by the number 13, is the party of the deputy mayor, Lourival Casula. In 2022, a sign of the rupture of this unlikely alliance was the removal of Casula from the Secretariat for Economic Development.
In an event held in March, Casula declared his intention to run for mayor in 2024.
The information that the room numbers had been changed came through a post by the State Union of Education Professionals of Rio de Janeiro (Sepe-RJ) on social networks.
“The arbitrary change of the number 13, historical symbol of the Workers’ Party and a political ideology, to the number 22, can be seen as an attempt to influence the future electoral process. The exchange of symbols and political references in public bodies configures a irregular and illegal practice, which may constitute an electoral crime”, says the text published by the union.
