Schools in SP have classes interrupted by theft of wiring – 03/22/2023 – Education

The Samuel Wainer State School, located in Grajaú, south of São Paulo, had electrical wires stolen on two occasions in the last week. Without electricity, elementary school classes 1 and 2 and high school were canceled last Monday (20).

The case is more serious at the Marechal Deodoro State School, in Bom Retiro, in the center of the capital, which receives students from the 1st to the 5th year of elementary school. Part of the electrical wiring was stolen two months ago, and the unit has been in the dark ever since. Students attend classes, but all classes must be held while there is sunlight.

Seduc (Secretary of Education of the State of São Paulo) says it has already started hiring the company that will carry out the repair, for which an investment of around R$ 97,000 will be required. So far, according to the ministry, only initial repairs have been carried out at the Marechal Deodoro school.

Regarding the recent thefts at the Samuel Wainer school, Seduc says it helps the school’s management in drawing up a plan to replace canceled classes. The unit will use funds from the PDDE (Direct Money Program at School)) paulista for maintenance services.

The first theft took place in the early hours of last Friday (17), and the second, on Sunday night (19). According to the SSP (Secretary of Public Security), the incidents were registered at the 101st DP (Jardim das Imbuias), which launched an investigation to identify the author of the crime and recover the stolen material.

Also according to Seduc, Enel was activated to restore electricity, and on Tuesday morning (21) students were able to attend the institution normally.

Cláudio Silva, 17, a 3rd year high school student at Samuel Wainer, said that, on Friday, everyone attended classes in the dark until 3 pm, when it was no longer possible to see the pictures.

“They didn’t warn, so everyone went to study. A terrible situation. We had to spend a good part of the day without basic things, like fans working,” he said.

School officials, who declined to be identified, claim to be afraid of further thefts and invasions, as, according to them, the school is located in an unsafe area.
