Politician defends more investments in the country in a sector with low logistical and environmental costs

Federal deputy Saullo Vianna (União-AM) promotes this Wednesday (6), in the Freitas Nobre auditorium, Chamber of Deputies, the Round Table “Aquatic Infrastructure and Credit for the Navigation sector”, an event of the Mixed Parliamentary Front for the Development of Inland Navigation, of which he is vice-president.

Among other issues that will be the subject of debate at the Round Table are the mechanisms for improving River Safety, with the proposal to create the Waterway Police, Workforce Training, as well as current issues, such as the serious Drought in the Amazon.

“One of the main challenges of inland navigation is the training of labor that enables increased productivity and competitiveness of inland navigation companies, especially in Arco Norte, which covers ports in the states of Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Maranhão, important regions for the flow of grains”, stated Vianna.

Another challenge pointed out by Saullo Vianna is the difficulty for small shipowners and vessels that transport passengers, especially in the Amazon, where rivers are riverside roads, in accessing development policies.

“The Merchant Marine Fund is a fleet financing instrument, but these resources cannot reach small shipowners. In the last ten years, we found that no passenger transport company in the Amazon, for example, was able to obtain financing from the fund”,

pointed out the parliamentarian.

High transport capacity and low environmental impact – The low maintenance and implementation cost, lower socio-environmental cost, longer useful life, lower fuel consumption and high volume capacity transported make navigation a strategic logistics solution for the country, for Saullo Vianna.

“From a natural point of view, without interventions, the waterways in the North region are privileged. With lower logistics costs and cheaper shipping, the price of Brazilian products is reduced, which gives an advantage in the foreign market. Because of these natural aspects, the rivers of the North, in general, require a different perspective and policy”,
