The state of São Paulo recorded, as of this Saturday (2), 128,437 cases of dengue fever, according to data updated by the SES (Secretariat of State for Health) monitoring panel. Of these, 167 are considered serious — when the patient has respiratory failure, intense bleeding or serious organ involvement.

Cases with an alarm signal – when the fever stops, but the patient continues to have abdominal pain, vomiting or bleeding from mucous membranes – total 1,769.

The number of deaths has remained at 27 since last Friday (1st). The number of deaths under investigation fell from 132 to 130.

The deaths occurred in the municipalities of Bariri (2), Bauru (1), Bebedouro (1), Campinas (1), São Paulo (2), Franca (1), Marília (3), Mauá (1), Guarulhos (1 ), Pederneiras (2), Restinga (1), Ribeirão Preto (2), Suzano (1), São José dos Campos (1), Parisi (1), Pindamonhangaba (2), Taubaté (2), Tremembé (1) and Votuporanga (1).

Despite the rapid increase in cases and deaths from dengue in the state, the Tarcísio de Freitas administration did not take the decision to declare a public health emergency, a measure taken by at least 11 cities in São Paulo — Registro, Iepê, Marília, Botucatu, Jacareí , Pindamonhangaba, Pederneiras, Bariri, Guararema, Suzano and Taubaté.

For experts, the state already meets the conditions for an emergency situation, such as the number of new cases and overcrowding in public health services.

On Friday, management held D-Day to combat dengue, which included actions in schools, and work to sweep breeding sites in homes with the support of Civil Defense and the Army.

On the occasion, the acting state health secretary of São Paulo, Priscilla Perdicaris, stated that the current epidemiological scenario of dengue in the state does not yet justify an emergency decree.

This Saturday (2), Brazil records 1,038,475 probable cases of dengue and 258 confirmed deaths from the disease in 2024, according to the Ministry of Health’s Arbovirus Panel. Another 651 deaths are being investigated.

With an incidence rate of 511 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the country’s situation is already considered epidemic according to WHO (World Health Organization) criteria — above 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

This Saturday, the Ministry organized a day of national mobilization to reinforce actions to combat the dengue mosquito vector. In a ceremony in the municipality of Serra, in Espírito Santo, minister Nísia Trindade stated that the work to combat dengue must be a joint action between the federation’s entities. “The SUS only exists with states and municipalities acting together,” she said.
