In the return duel, after São Paulo’s 1-0 victory in the first leg, Bruno Henrique opened the scoring for Flamengo and Rodrigo Nestor equalized for the home team, which ended up becoming the title goal. Both goals were scored in the final stretch of the first half.
São Paulo, which has experienced little success since its last Brazilian title in 2008 (it won the Sul-Americana in 2012 and the Paulista in 2021), was finally able to celebrate the lack of this item on its list of achievements. The season is already marked in the club’s history.
Flamengo faces the concrete possibility of ending the year without titles. In 2023, even participating in the Club World Cup, Brazilian Super Cup, Recopa Sul-Americana, Campeonato Carioca, Copa do Brasil and Libertadores da América, the team still doesn’t know what it means to be champion.
