Santos broke another negative record under president Andres Rueda. This Friday (15), the São Paulo team announced the dismissal of Uruguayan coach Diego Aguirre, 58.
The coach is the eighth name discarded by the club’s current boss – and also the one with the shortest tenure. He lasted 40 days, or just five games in office.
“By decision of the Management Committee and the football coordinator, coach Diego Aguirre no longer commands the Santos Futebol Clube professional team. The coach was informed of the decision by technical coordinator Alexandre Gallo”, the club announced.
In the match against Bahia, next Monday (18), considered decisive for Santos’ intentions to escape the relegation zone of the Brazilian Championship, the team will be managed on an interim basis by assistant Marcelo Fernandes.
The teams are separated by four points. Santos, in 17th place, with 21 points, is trying to get closer to the Tricolor team, which has 25.
In addition to the commander, assistants Juan Verzeri and Juan Andres Iraola and physical trainers Fernando Piñatares and Ignácio Piñatares also leave the club.
Aguirre leaves Vila Belmiro with the worst performance of a club coach in the century: 20%, with one victory and four defeats.
The bad results leave behind his predecessor, Paulo Turra, who had lasted seven games and left with 28.5%. The trigger was the 3-0 defeat to Cruzeiro, last Thursday (14), in Vila Belmiro. Club officials understood the team’s stance as unacceptable.
