Santos Café: festival has tastings and tours in the center – 07/07/2023 – Café na Prensa

The historic center of Santos (SP) is hosting this weekend a festival with coffee tastings, workshops and lectures on the drink.

Santos Café also has shows, exhibitions and tours for adults and children. This is the eighth edition of the event, which starts this Friday (7) and runs until Sunday (9).

Activities take place in places such as the Coffee Museum, the Valongo region, Praça Mauá, among others.

PRICES FALL, BUT ROBUSTS HAVE A HIGHEST IN 28 YEARS

Arabica coffee prices in the world fell and reached the lowest level since July 2021, while robusta beans had the highest rise in 28 years, according to the market report for the month of June released by the International Coffee Organization ( ICO, its acronym in English).

The ICO composite indicator price dropped 2.4% from May to June 2023, averaging $171.25 cents/lb ($3.78 per kilogram). Robusta prices, in turn, increased by 7.8% – an average of US$ 132.13 cents/lb.

It is the highest monthly average for robustas since February 1995. With this strong rise, the price difference between the two species is at its lowest point since October 2020.

“This trend feeds into a broader phenomenon, in which Arabica and Robusta prices have been decoupled, with Robusta benefiting from a shift in demand towards cheaper prices for higher quality and priced Arabicas,” the report says.

AEROPRESS CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES DETAILS

The Campeonato Brasileiro de Aeropress —pressure filtration method— announced the details of this year’s competition. The event will take place on October 28 and 29, in Campinas (SP).

The winner will be able to compete in the world cup in Australia — travel costs are included in the champion’s award.

There will be 48 baristas competing in the Brazilian. Registration opened last Thursday (6) and sold out in minutes.

In addition to the dispute itself, the event in Campinas will have lectures and should count on the presence of producers and coffee shops and roasters.
