OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman left the company abruptly after losing the trust of its board of directors, according to a statement released this Friday (17) by the pioneer in artificial intelligence.
“Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently forthright in his communications with the board, hindering his ability to exercise his responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading the OpenAI”, says the statement from the Microsoft-backed company.
Altman will be replaced by Mira Murati, currently the company’s chief technology officer, who will serve as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is named.
