The first vegan salmon made with a 3D printer has just arrived on European supermarket shelves. Created by the startup Revo Foods, specialized in food technology, the product was launched with the aim of being a sustainable alternative.
According to the company, laboratory-printed salmon fillets have the same flavor and texture as those of animal origin, but are made from mycoprotein, a substance originating from filamentous fungi.
It is available in some supermarkets in Europe and is sold on the Revo Foods website, with delivery to Austria and Germany. The price for 130 grams is 7 euros (about R$36).
As for nutritional value, the product contains a series of vitamins, fatty acids and omega-3. It is also considered rich in protein, with 9.5g per 100 grams, although this is still lower than what is found in the same amount of salmon of animal origin.
Founded in 2020, the startup produces fish-inspired items like salmon and tuna that are 100% plant-based, and describes itself as a “fish company that saves fish.”
