The ruralist caucus of the National Congress requested this Wednesday (12) that federal authorities and the state of São Paulo initiate a criminal investigation and administrative actions against the coordinator of the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST), João Pedro Stédile.

According to the FPA, the MST leader announced an “imminent wave of crimes in the country” in a video in which he mentioned mobilizations in all states, such as marches, vigils and land invasions. The actions of the MST would be part of the “April of Fights”, also called “Red April”, carried out in memory of the massacre of Eldorado do Carajás, which took place in April 1996, which resulted in the death of 19 landless people.

In the document, the FPA expressed concern about the “serious threats and incitement to crimes” and asked for the assessment of “pretrial detention or use of electronic ankle bracelet monitoring”. They also pointed out the need to “search the seizure at MST headquarters” and breaches of secrecy, in addition to removing the video on the internet.

Last Tuesday (11), federal deputy Evair Vieira de Melo (PP-ES) presented two requests for a summons so that the Ministers of Justice, Flávio Dino, and of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, provide clarification on measures to avoid actions. And deputy Pedro Lupion (PP-PR), president of the Agricultural Parliamentary Front, criticized the announcement of new invasions. “It is incitement to violence, incitement to crime and an attack on property rights in the country,” Lupion said.
