Rui seeks Lira and União Brasil after joint criticism – 06/15/2023 – Politics

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, met this Thursday (15) with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), amid a series of complaints to the political articulation of the Lula government (PT) among parliamentarians. The minister had been the target of criticism from deputies.

According to PT allies, this change in attitude came from the minister himself and has the president’s encouragement. The idea is that he assumes a role as a political strategist for the government going forward — and not just a executor of works.

There is a fear, however, that he will clash with Minister Alexandre Padilha (Secretary of Institutional Relations), who has acted exclusively in political articulation until now.

On Wednesday (14), Rui had lunch with the leader of the União Brasil na Casa, Elmar Nascimento (BA) —the two are political opponents in Bahia. It was at this meeting that it was agreed that the minister would meet with Lira.

This movement indicates a change in attitude by Rui, who had been dedicating himself to managing projects identified as strategic by the Palácio do Planalto, focusing on the new PAC (Acceleration and Growth Program), which has not yet left the drawing board.

He also arranged a meeting with a group of PT deputies on Wednesday night. According to reports, the minister indicated that this change in attitude would have come from him and that he would have communicated to President Lula —who approved the initiative.

According to the minister’s interlocutors, he indicated that he may hold more conversations in this regard in the coming days. He should also act to establish more bridges with Congress. Next week, for example, he should participate in a lunch at the FPE (Parliamentary Front for Entrepreneurship).

Still according to reports, this movement by Rui is to try to repair his relationship with the leaders (personally and institutionally), and aim at the next steps. The idea of ​​the conversations was for him to hear the complaints and demands of parliamentarians, indicating possible actions that could be taken.

PT allies claim that the conversation with Elmar was frank, direct and firm. They would have spoken about the political situation and the participation of União Brasil in the federal government. Also according to reports, Rui reinforced that it is necessary for the caption to demonstrate loyalty to the Executive, since it has representatives on the Esplanada dos Ministérios.
