The President of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Minister Rosa Weber, and Minister Alexandre de Moraes visited, late this Monday afternoon (6) the Women’s Penitentiary of the Federal District, where the detainees are being held for the coup attacks of January 8 .
The interim governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão (PP), who accompanied the visit, said that they walked through the three wings of the prison and talked with the inmates.
“It was an institutional visit. They went to give some information and see the conditions of the prisoners,” he said. A representative of the DF’s public defender’s office also accompanied the visit, in addition to government and STF advisors.
According to reports from people who were part of the entourage, the ministers would have clarified to the detainees that their conduct will be individualized and that they will be punished with justice, to the extent of their guilt.
The ministers were not harassed, according to the reports, but heard complaints from the prisoners about food, which would arrive in poor condition for consumption, and about the procedural situation.
The prisoners would also have stated that they are awaiting legal clarification and have made appeals on health issues and that they are mothers of children with comorbidities.
The ministers also planned to visit the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, where male prisoners are kept, but there would not have been time. A new date must be scheduled.
According to the STF, currently 751 people are still in prison and 655 have been released from prison. All of them were denounced by the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) for incitement to crime and criminal association.
