Ronaldo admits mistakes at Cruzeiro and makes promises for 2024

Closing 2023 with maintenance in the national elite and a place in the Copa Sudamericana took a huge weight off the shoulders of Ronaldo Fenômeno. “Nation, we have reached the end of the difficult 2023 season and my intention here is not to exempt us from blame for the mistakes made – on the contrary, to recognize them -, but also to shed light on the many positive steps taken towards rebuilding a giant like Cruzeiro. The easiest path was never an option. And the correct path, despite being more complex, is the only truly safe one for the medium and long term”, began his letter Ronaldo, admitting that there were ups and downs in 2023.

Returning to international competitions is a reason for happiness for the manager. After the fight against relegation – they escaped in the penultimate round -, securing the Copa Sudamericana was a nice bonus in this year’s return to the elite.

“Today, with great joy, we are back in America! Two years ago this was unimaginable. And the priorities, since the beginning of management, were the organization of finances, respect for employees and players, the recovery of values ​​and proud to be Cruzeiro, the timely payments of the entire supply chain, the development of infrastructure and investments at the base, in addition, of course, to the reconstruction of sporting results in a sustainable way”, he listed, showing confidence in much better days to come.

“I have no doubt about our successes on the way here. I never hid from you that it would be the most difficult season of our journey together due to several factors, but I know that we also stumbled on important decisions and each of these mistakes, even though it made ours even more difficult relationship, provided us with valuable lessons that will prevent us from repeating them”, he stated.

Convinced that he learned from diversity, Ronaldo hopes to rescue Cruzeiro from its titles and notable victories. He makes a point of stressing that he took over a club “in a terminal state” and that now a lot of things are in order.

“Now is a moment of relief for all of us, Cruzeiro residents. We know that the year was far from ideal due to the greatness of Cruzeiro, but, despite everything, we overcame the greatest adversities and never stopped learning and growing as an institution”, he said. “We have reached significant milestones, such as the modernization of a large part of the physical structure of the Training Centers and many other investments that will bring tangible results in the future, in addition to achievements for Women’s Football and the Crias da Toca”, he showed confidence.

“The fact that we find Cruzeiro in a terminal state will never cease to be part of our history, however it is time to turn the page, leave the past behind, renew our commitment and look ahead: the New Cruzeiro is under construction and much better days will come. With the same passion that I embraced the challenge in 2022 and with all the lessons we learned in 2023, I assure you that 2024 will, without a doubt, be superior and more audacious.”
