Manuas (AM) – The landslide of a ravine in the municipality of Manicoré (331 kilometers from Manaus), which “swallowed” part of the city’s shore and caused 16 homes to collapse, motivated the president of the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), state deputy Roberto Cidade (UB ), to reinforce the request for decentralized State Civil Defense centers to be created. And even though the body’s planning for action in cases of natural disaster in Amazonian municipalities is presented to deputies.

Another request from the deputy president was regarding the implementation of housing programs in the municipality, starting with the Santa Luzia neighborhood, where the landslide occurred. There, in addition to the 16 homes already affected, another 30 are at imminent risk of being swallowed by the ravine.

“I have great identification with Manicoré, which is my family’s hometown. Unfortunately, on Saturday night, the landslide in the Santa Luzia neighborhood, where I spent part of my childhood, swept down 16 houses. I would like to thank Governor Wilson Lima for immediately accepting our request and that of Mayor Lúcio Flávio and mobilizing the Civil Defense to respond to this incident. The next day, a team was already there and, together with the city hall, began assisting the population. As a nightjar, I sympathize and reinforce my commitment to Manicoré. I place our mandate at your disposal to do everything we can to help alleviate the damage and help the population get back on their feet”,

he stated.

Among the proposals presented by the City are the implementation of housing programs in the municipality. He also reinforced the suggestion of creating Civil Defense hubs within the State, so that the prompt response is more agile.

“In addition to the 16 houses, another 30 are threatened by the landslide. To minimize the suffering of these families and guarantee new perspectives, the ideal would be for Suhab (Housing Superintendency) to develop a housing program in the municipality. The president of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Marcellus Campêlo, has already been consulted about the possibility of developing a project similar to the one recently carried out in Maués. We need to provide guidance, support and seek solutions for these families, especially those left homeless”,

Civil Defense at Aleam

It was also a request from the deputy president that Civil Defense install decentralized centers in the interior and that the body’s Executive Secretary, Colonel Francisco Máximo Filho, present the action plan for the municipalities of Amazonas, especially for this dry period.

“On the 29th, the head of the State’s Civil Defense, Colonel Máximo Filho, should come to the Assembly to explain to us the state’s Civil Defense plan to face these natural challenges that have presented themselves. It is important to have this overview. On that occasion, we will reinforce this demand for the decentralization of the hubs. This will benefit the municipality that will remain as headquarters, as well as those in the surrounding area”,

Deputies João Luiz (Republicamos) and Dan Câmara (Podemos), who separated Deputy Cidade’s speech, also highlighted the importance of the Civil Defense teams’ actions being decentralized.

“We urgently need to start this debate on strengthening Civil Defense throughout the state of Amazonas. This expansion is a necessity. As with other departments, the Civil Defense department also needs to be extended to other municipalities so that the response is faster. We are experiencing drought, but we have already had a cyclone, record floods”,

In the same vein, deputy Commander Dan spoke about the need to have an overview of the State Civil Defense Plan. “This is a reality that affects several municipalities and we need to be able to see the risks so that measures can be adopted, proactive measures that will minimize the suffering of traditional and riverside populations”suggested Commander Dan.
