Rio de Janeiro announced this Thursday (30) the creation of an application with a panic button and training for teachers in the event of attacks in public and private schools. The promise is that the app entitled Rede Escola, developed by the Military Police, will be launched within a month.
The measure comes after the attack made by a 13-year-old teenager on a state school in São Paulo last Monday (27) and an attempted knife attack at a school in the south zone of Rio, last Tuesday (28) .
“As soon as we saw that deplorable scene in São Paulo, we thought of the idea of creating a safety plan for the schools. In addition to the concern with operations close to the schools, there is concern with the safety of students within the school environment”, he said. Governor Cláudio Castro (PL).
The project was presented this Thursday at a meeting with state and municipal education representatives. The idea is that students and teachers can quickly communicate risk situations to the police authorities. The control of the device in the classroom environment, however, will be monitored and administered by the teachers.
The application, according to Castro, will be available to public schools in the municipal, state and federal networks, as well as private ones. Through the emergency button, the school will be able to report and call the PM at number 190.
The goal is for the application to work along the lines of Rede Mulher, an app that has served victims of violence in the state since October.
According to the government, Rede Escola will also have other functions. Lectures, information and materials related to the fight against violence will be available.
Bope (Special Police Operations Battalion) and Core (Coordination of Special Operations and Resources) are going to prepare training for teachers to learn negotiation strategies to apply in schools in case of attacks.
In addition, also this Thursday, the Permanent Committee on School Safety was created so that representatives of schools take complaints to the police and discuss the creation of other strategies.
