Right-wing lawyers show support for the president of OAB/RS

The Movimento Advogados de Direita Brasil – composed of more than 4 thousand lawyers – released, this Tuesday (17), a note of recognition and support to the president Leonardo Lamachia, of the branch of the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio Grande do SUL ( OAB-RS). The note was published after Lamachia’s speech criticizing the STF, at the Act for the Defense of Democracy, held in Porto Alegre, this Monday (16).

At the event, the president of OAB-RS highlighted the “serious and delicate” moment experienced in the country. “Democracy is a non-negotiable value and its defense is an obligation of all Brazilians. There is no other way for the country to have prosperity, development and peace other than through the democratic rule of law,” he said, repudiating the acts that took place in Brasília on January 8.

Lamachia also called the decisions practiced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) “excesses” and nominally criticized Minister Alexandre de Moraes for “disrespecting due process of law”. “I am referring to the decisions handed down within the scope of inquiry 4781 and in relation to the facts that occurred in Brasília that violate the Federal Constitution and that also violate the democratic rule of law, prerogatives of the law, in addition to usurping the competence of the Public Ministry and the very judiciary,” he recalled.

At the end of the speech, Lamachia demanded conciliation between the Powers, authorities and opposition. “The STF, the other authorities of the Republic, the leaders of the opposition must change the way they act, striving for balance, consideration and serenity with a view to maintaining democracy. If there is no such change, democracy is at risk.”

The lawyers’ movement praised Lamachia’s speech. “We express our gratitude for the necessary speech, which reflects the thoughts of all the lawyers that make up the Movement, underscores the importance of always defending individual freedoms and guarantees, regardless of the ideological side and the historical moment of the facts”, wrote the lawyers.
