O Flamengo defeated the Cuiabá 2-1, this Sunday (3), at Maracanã, and reaches the last round of the Brazilian Championship depending only on themselves to guarantee a place in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.

Coach Tite’s team reached 66 points and ends its participation in the Brazilian Championship against São Paulo on Wednesday at Morumbi.

Flamengo still has a remote chance of reaching the title, but they need to beat São Paulo, hope for Palmeiras’ defeat to Cruzeiro and take a huge advantage from their rival on goal difference (31 to 16). Atlético-MG also has 66 points and a balance of 23.

The match marked the farewell of Filipe Luís, 38, and Rodrigo Caio, 30, from Flamengo. The left-back will retire, and the defender will not renew his contract with the club.

Flamengo dominated the first half. After Gerson’s exchange with Pedro, the ball fell inside the area to Luiz Araújo, who finished from the left and opened the scoring.

In the 48th minute of the first half, Arrascaeta crossed and Pedro, inside the small area, headed the ball into the right corner of goalkeeper João Carlos to make it 2-0.

In the second half, Cuiabá managed to reduce it. Clayson suffered a penalty, which he took and reduced Flamengo’s advantage, in the 33rd minute.

In the 36th minute, Filipe Luís was substituted and celebrated by the fans at Maracanã. Rodrigo Caio also had the chance to play. At 45 minutes, the defender came on to replace Léo Pereira. Cuiabá’s last game will be against Athletico Paranaense, at Arena Pantanal.
