Request for review could suspend judgment against Bolsonaro for 60 days

The trial of the action that could make former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) ineligible for the next eight years, which begins this Thursday (22) at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), may be suspended for up to 60 days if any minister requests a review of the process.

Vista is a request that a magistrate can make to carry out a more in-depth analysis of the file, which can delay the conclusion of the trial. The possibility is not remote and could occur by any of the seven Justices of the Court.

In an interview with CNN Brasil this Wednesday (21), Bolsonaro said he hopes that one of the judges will ask for a review of the process – and not Kássio Nunes Marques, one of his nominees for the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and who is part of the TSE.

“Kássio Nunes [Marques] will be the 6th to vote and may have already decided on the invoice for one side or the other. Since it’s a vote of almost 500 pages [do relator, ministro Benedito Gonçalves] the ideal would be for someone at the beginning to ask for a view”, he said.

In the same interview, Bolsonaro classified the trial as a “storm in a teapot” due to the meeting he held with ambassadors and diplomats last year, before the elections, in which he spoke about the Brazilian electoral system.

“I don’t know why create a storm in a teapot. It was just talked to them [com embaixadores em uma reunião]
how the electoral system worked. I didn’t mention the word fraud there, regarding future elections. I spoke of that Federal Police inquiry in November 2018 that, to date, has not been concluded yet. Only that. What’s the problem discussing this matter ”, questioned Bolsonaro.

The TSE reserved three sessions for the analysis of the process: this Thursday (22) and the next Tuesday (27) and Thursday (29).
