Post lies when he appropriates a video of cattle seizures in the Amazon and invents a narrative that the area was sold and will have a military base. The viral post, which uses real footage of helicopters on a rural property, contains false claims from voiceovers inserted over the original video.
In one of the audios in the video, verified by the Comprova Project, an unidentified man mentions cities in the Amazon and says that the entire area will be expropriated to be given to other countries. According to him, a military base will be built on the site. The third time the video is shown, another man says that Lula and Dilma (PT) gave land to foreigners and that Jair Bolsonaro (PL), when president, “took everything back” and gave it to the landless.
The assertions are unfounded. In the report, Ibama stated that the helicopters shown in the video were participating in Operation Retomada, launched in the region of Uruará, in Pará. The action, according to a publication sent by the agency, is “focused on the apprehension of cattle raised in areas already embargoed by illegal deforestation in the Amazon” to enable the recovery of the forest. The matter was covered by the professional press.
Ibama confirmed that it had notified rural landowners, but the reason had nothing to do with the alleged sale of the areas. In fact, the notified farmers, according to the agency, failed to comply with embargoes, “which characterizes a new environmental crime”. The notification shown in the video therefore concerns non-compliance with the law. A verification of the same content carried out by Estadão Verify also found, based on a better resolution video, that the document that appears in the image corresponds to the notification of an area embargoed for illegal deforestation. The video, however, is no longer available.
There are also no records of the “sale of the Amazon” by PT governments or the construction of a military base involving foreign countries on the border between Tocantins and Maranhão. No reports were found about alleged work or negotiation. The topic has been explored for years, in different contexts, by producers of disinformation, and the allegation of land sales was denied by the PT in 2020.
Previous verification by Comprova has already shown it to be false that Lula has sold soil from the Amazon.
As the verified video suggests, Bolsonaro, in fact, as president, claimed to be against the sale of land to foreigners. In 2021, he took a stand against a Bill (PL) that authorized the sale of up to 25% of the area of municipalities to companies from other countries. The content omits, however, that the PT also positioned itself against the PL, a rare occasion in which opponents were side by side.
False, for Comprova, is content that was invented or that has been edited to change its original meaning and deliberately disseminated to spread a falsehood.
Reach
Comprova investigates suspicious content with greater reach on social networks. Until April 28, the post on TikTok had 218.3 thousand views, 14.6 thousand likes, 12 thousand shares and more than 2.2 thousand comments. The publication on Facebook already accumulated 1,600 shares, 1,400 likes and almost 800 comments.
How do we check
The report downloaded the video from TikTok and used the Transkriptor tool to turn the audio in the video into text. Based on the allegations made by the narrators, he Googled keywords such as “embargoed areas, cattle, Amazon”; “military base, sale, Amazon”; and “sale, land, Bolsonaro, foreigners”.
The survey returned a check on the same video made by Estadão Verify, other checks involving the alleged sale of the Amazon and journalistic content.
The team also reverse-searched the images through InVid in an attempt to find other posts that might have used the same video. Using the Image Upscaler resource, offered by the Clipdrop website, he increased the quality of the images to look for clues in the video itself.
Finally, the team sent an email to the press offices of Ibama and the Ministry of Defense. The latter body had not responded to the questions until the publication of this verification.
What the person responsible for the publication says
The report sent a message via TikTok to the profile @clory_usa and, via Facebook, to the profile of Vera Würzius. Both did not respond until the verification was published.
What can we learn from this check
Verified content makes use of very low quality images. This is a strategy commonly used by disinformation producers. In this case, the low resolution prevents the reading of the document shown by the woman in the recording.
Furthermore, the narrators, who line up information without citing sources, are not identified. This is a warning sign. One of the men even uses the term “at first”, which indicates that he is not sure what the man is talking about.
In these cases, suspect! Try to find out about the topic by searching Google and reading news published by the professional press. If the Amazon had really been sold, the issue would have generated worldwide repercussions and would motivate a series of reports on the subject.

Comprova has already investigated other pieces of disinformation involving the President of the Republic and the alleged sale of the Amazon. It found, for example, that the video is misleading when it says that Lula sold the Amazon to the mining company in exchange for money for the Amazon Fund and that it is false that he sold soil in the Amazon to a Norwegian company in a secret document.
