Profession: heir

The 53 heirs who became billionaires in 2022 had greater combined wealth than the 84 new billionaires who built their own fortunes.

  • The study, by the Swiss bank UBS, points out that this is the first time this has happened since this type of survey began nine years ago.

In numbers:

  • US$150.8 billion it was the combined wealth of the heirs who became billionaires in 2022;
  • US$140.7 billion it was the accumulated fortune of the entrepreneurs who joined the list of billionaires last year.

Which explains: The last three decades have been marked by a technology boom, growth in emerging countries and real estate and market appreciation.

  • Now, the entrepreneurs who created their companies in these scenarios are passing the baton to the next generations.

In Forbes’ latest annual list, released in April, the magazine announced that the youngest billionaire was Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, heir to Ray-Ban.

In fact, the owner of this post is a Brazilian heiress, as Glamurama, from the UOL portal, showed.

This is Lívia Voigt de Assis, 19, granddaughter of Werner Ricardo Voigt, one of the founders of WEG in Santa Catarina. At the time of the magazine’s publication, its 3.1% stake in the electric motor manufacturer was valued at US$1 billion.

Best month in three years

The Brazilian Stock Exchange ended the month of November with a jump of 12.53%. It was the biggest increase for the Ibovespa since November 2020, when interest rates at historic lows due to the pandemic generated euphoria in the markets.

Why did the stock market rise so much in November? Because of the external scenario, especially in the USA.

  • In recent weeks, data from the American economy encouraged investors to anticipate the start of the rate cut cycle for the first half of the year.

– Why it impacts the stock market: Expectations for lower interest rates in the US mean greater risk appetite for investors, who withdraw resources from US Treasury bonds in search of higher returns.

  • The flow of money goes to the Stock Exchanges, and in this scenario the assets of emerging countries also benefit.

In the USA, the Nasdaq index, which brings together technology companies, was the one that rose the most in the month (10.70%). S&P500 (8.92%) and Dow Jones (8.77%) also performed well.

Leader of the month: Ibovespa was the application that appreciated the most in November. Next come the small cap (smaller companies) and dividend indexes, which also rose by double digits. See the performance of other types of investment here.
