Rapporteur minimizes Zanin’s relationship with Lula and says that few are against the nomination

The rapporteur of the sabbath of lawyer Cristiano Zanin to the position of Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB), minimized this Tuesday (13) his relationship with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT ), who was part of the defense during the Lava Jato Operation processes. Zanin will be questioned in the Senate on the 21st.

For the rapporteur, there are few critics of Zanin’s relationship with Lula and that both the text of the report and the senators themselves will be able to separate the connection between the two. Rêgo cited as an example the appointment of André Mendonça by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who also had a close relationship.

“And we knew how to separate, that’s not the approach. Our report will deal with what is required of us at this moment: dr. Zanin specifically addresses the knowledge, attitude, behavior, experience of someone who has 25 years in the practice of law? It is not a political issue to be observed, neither today nor with the names that were previously questioned and approved”, he said in an interview with GloboNews.

The senator had a meeting with Cristiano Zanin in the morning, and he also said that there is a legal impediment to the lawyer’s performance in cases resulting from Lava Jato in which he has petitioned in favor of the president.

According to him, it is something that “will not be, by force of itself, and well known, in moments when there is on the agenda in the STF any matter that directly or indirectly alludes to Lava Jato processes, it will raise its own impediment ”.

Vital do Rêgo said he believes that Zanin will even have votes from opposition senators to lead the STF, and that he has already been informed of this position because “they know how to make this separation in observations, analyzes and processes that must be under technical-legal criteria”. For him, this type of analysis is above the discussion of the situation of government and opposition.
