Quaest: Lula is approved by 40% and disapproved by 20% – 02/14/2023 – Power

The third term of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is assessed as positive by 40% of respondents in a survey by Quaest. After 45 days in government, the PT administration is seen as fair by 24% and as negative by 20%. Another 16% did not respond or did not give an opinion.

The survey heard 2,016 people from last Friday (10) to Monday (13) and has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points, more or less. The survey is financed by digital investment broker Genial Investimentos, controlled by Genial bank.

In the evaluation of 38%, the Lula government is neither better nor worse than expected. For 33%, it is better than expected, while 18% think it is worse than expected — 11% did not answer or do not know.

The majority (60%) believe that the Lula government will be better than the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government was, but 27% say it will be worse – for 8% it will be the same and 5% do not know or did not answer.

When comparing Lula’s previous administrations, optimism remains: 53% say they believe that Lula 3 will be better than the PT’s other administrations; 25% say it will be worse and 14% say it will be the same.

65% of those interviewed in the survey approve of the way Lula behaves as president, while 29% disapprove. The survey shows that 55% say the president is seeking to be more moderate with his positions — 34% say he is trying to be more radical.

The survey shows that 44% like Lula, 29% neither like nor dislike and 25% do not like the current president. The rates are worse for Bolsonaro: 43% do not like him, 31% have no feelings and 25% like him.

The theme most remembered by the new government among those interviewed is aid to the Yanomami and action against mining, mentioned by 9%. The return and increase of Bolsa Família comes in second place, with 6%.

The main problem in Brazil is the economy for 30%, tied with social issues, with 29%. In third place come health and pandemic, with 11%.

The survey also asked if people were aware of Lula’s clash with the Central Bank regarding the interest rate — 67% answered no and 30% yes. For 76%, the petista is right to try to force a drop in the interest rate — 16% think not.

With regard to the attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers on January 8, 94% disapproved of the action and only 4% approved. For 51%, Bolsonaro had influence on the invasions (38% think not) – and Lula came out stronger for 72% (14% see him weaker).

A portion of 42% say that the participants in the invasion represent Bolsonaro voters, against 49% who disagree. In the evaluation of 54%, the intention of the acts was to remove Lula from power by force, but 40% see only a protest against the government.

The Quaest survey also asked about the assessment of first lady Rosângela Silva, Janja, which is considered positive by 41%, fair by 22% and negative by 19%. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) is seen as positive by 32%, regular by 34% and negative by 19%.

The survey also questioned what is the opinion of Brazilians about the STF (Supreme Federal Court), which took the lead in actions against coup acts by supporters of the former president, mainly with the inquiries under the responsibility of Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

For 36% of respondents, the image of the STF is regular. Another 29% consider it negative, and 23% see it as positive — 12% did not respond or do not know.

Among Lula’s voters in the second round, 37% see the STF’s image as positive; 41% as regular and 11% as negative. For those who voted for Bolsonaro, the court is considered negative by 58%; regular by 27% and positive by 6%.

Most respondents (48%) believe that the STF is indeed playing a good role in defending democracy. There are 37% who say no and another 15% do not know or did not respond.

In the universe of those who approved the attacks on the three branches of government on January 8, 53% say that the STF is not playing a good role in defending democracy and 38% say that it is. Among those who disapprove of the intrusions, 49% say that the Supreme Court is doing a good job and 36% say that it is not.

Overall, 43% say Moraes is overreacting to recent decisions. Already 37% say there is no exaggeration — 20% do not know or did not respond.

Moraes, by the way, is known by 81% of those interviewed, while 18% answered that they do not know him or have heard of him. Only 2% do not know or did not respond.
