Quaest: 54% reject Bolsonaro’s return to public life – 04/19/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The majority of Brazilian voters defend that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) stay away from public life, according to Genial/Quaest survey carried out between the 13th and 16th of this month.

Of the respondents, 54% say they do not want to see the former president again in public office, against 39% who say they approve of an eventual return. Another 7% did not respond or said they did not know.

Disapproval of Bolsonaro is higher among voters who earn up to two minimum wages (62%) and voted for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round in past elections (83%) or opted for a blank or null vote or did not attend the election (59%).

Opposition to the return of the former president in the public arena stands out even among voters with higher incomes: it reaches 48% among those who earn more than two and up to five minimum wages, compared to 43% of that same group who defend the return of Bolsonaro.

Among those who earn more than five minimum wages, disapproval is 50%, against 45% of respondents in this group who prefer their return.

Of the respondents who voted for Bolsonaro, in turn, 74% believe that the former president should return to public life, against 19% who reject the hypothesis.

The Genial/Quaest survey also points out that 87% of respondents were aware that Bolsonaro had already returned to Brazil after spending a period in the United States, while 13% received the information at the time the survey was carried out.

Among the ex-president’s voters, only 8% did not know that he had already returned to the country.

The margin of error of the survey, made up of 2,015 Brazilians aged over 16, is 2.2 percentage points.
