Puppet Theater Workshop gets new date for second class in Manaus

“Manaus Makes Culture 2023”

Activities range from building dolls to creating stories.

Manaus (AM) – The second class of the Puppet Theater workshop promoted by Associação Artbrasil has a new date. Now, the activities of the new class will begin on October 25th and will continue until October 31st. With the theme “The creation of stories from reality to the scene, through puppet shows”, the workshop takes place at the Escola Estadual de Tempo Integral (Eeti) Marquês de Santa Cruz, located in the west zone of Manaus, from 1 pm to 4 pm.

On the 20th, the first group of participants completed the activities of the workshop that is part of the project “Núcleo de Desenvolvimento de Teatro de Formas Animadas”, included in the “Manaus Faz Cultura 2023” program, from the City of Manaus. For five days, 35 participants, under the guidance of workshop directors Jean Palladino and Roberto Carlos, worked on issues such as text creation, puppet making, manipulation techniques, as well as costumes, scenery and staging of a theatrical show.

For this new stage, the expectation is that success among participants will be repeated. According to Roberto Carlos, during the first activities, students showed great interest in production, creation and the proposed games.

“It was the first time they had access to a project like this. To make from scratch, to create. And they embarked on every step of the workshop. Hard-working and talented”,

commented Roberto.

Dynamics

The first day of the workshop focused on creating characters, where each participant idealized their future doll, defining names, characteristics and stories.

Next it was time to make dolls, all from recyclable materials, such as PET bottles, for example. At this stage, the designs created took shape using techniques such as papietagem (which uses glue and water).

And finally, the last stage of the workshop was the theatrical presentation with the manipulation of dolls and stories.

Conceived by the Artbrasil Association, one of the main objectives of the project is the creation of foundations for the promotion and popularization of art and its languages, in this case in particular, puppetry.

Another important aspect is using the production of shows to encourage the collective construction of texts to address problems inherent to the community.

Since 2001, the association has been developing projects in the areas of Theatre, Audiovisual, Animation, Art-Education, Circus and, throughout its history, it has had projects included in notices from Funarte, Manaus City Hall, Government of Amazonas, among others. In addition, ArtBrasil also received different awards, including: Best Scenario, Honor for Merit for Artistic Quality and Pedagogical Research with the show – “A carroça de Pandora do Largo de Sabá Tião”; award for Best Direction, with the show “The Princess and the Moon”; Language of Scenic Research award, Best Actor, Best Direction and Best Show with the show “The Knight in the Sun Armor”.
